SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Congratulations Jake James and Kara Hatten!
Jake and Kara are
long time youth members of the WCHA and we are proud to award
$1500.00 scholarships to both, respectively!

Jake D James
is the son of Steve and Mavis James of Daniel, Wyoming. As I
mentioned above, Jake has been an active and successful member
of the WCHA since he was 8 years old. He has had many successes
in the cutting pen, some of which include 4th, 8th, and 9th in the Junior and Senior Youth at the Western National
Championships in Ogden, over the years. He was also the Wyoming
High School Rodeo State Champion in boy’s cutting and 8th
in the Nation at the NHSFR. Along with this, he was 15th in the 20,000 non pro at the ’08 NCHA World Finals. Jake is
also a very accomplished student. He is a member of the
National Society of High School Scholars, has been on the
Pinedale High School Honor Roll for the past 4 years, is a past
president and treasurer of the Pinedale FFA Chapter, was a
varsity member of the Nordic Ski Team and a member of 4-H.
Jake plans on attending the University of Idaho in Moscow, where
he will pursue a master’s degree in two fields: business and
criminal justice.

Kara J Hatten
is the daughter of Dave and Traci Hatten of Wheatland, Wyoming.
Kara has also been active and successful in the cutting pen
since she was 8 years old. Some of her accomplishments in
cutting include; placing 5th in the youth and 15th
in the 2000 Limit Rider at the Western National Championships,
qualifier for the World Finals in the Junior Youth,
Wyoming
State High School Rodeo Association girl’s cutting champion and
NHSFR qualifier. Kara is also a member of 4-H and a past
president, secretary and reporter of the Wheatland FFA chapter.
Kara plans on attending Casper college in the fall to study art
and pursue a teaching degree in art education. Kara is also
planning to study equine massage and chiropractics. Along with
these pursuits, she also plans to travel the world and live in
van down by the river. (This is what she told me when I
interviewed her)

HORSE ASSOCIATION YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP
WCHA invites all graduating senior to apply for the WCHA Youth
Scholarship.
The criteria are as follows:
1) The applicant must be a current NCHA and WCHA member.
2) The applicant must be a graduating senior with plans to attend
secondary school.
3) Grade point average, scholastic achievement, extra curricular
activities, and cutting achievements will be considered.
4) The scholarship committee may require an interview with the
applicant.
5) The deadline for applicants is May 1, 2010.

Initiated in 2004, The
Wyoming CHA established a Scholarship Program. It was our
intention that youth who choose to extend their education
past High School should be able to apply for consideration.
This is open to any youth that is a paid up member in our
affiliate.
